Over 100 medals have been awarded so far, with the United States, Germany, Norway and Canada leading the medal race. This year's event has been nicknamed by some as the Glitch Games, with more than its share of problems, from a malfunctioning cauldron on opening night to weather problems and course troubles. VANOC officials said they were working on the issues they could control, and were optimistic as athletes continued to deliver amazing performances in the many venues around Vancouver. Lì fuori c'è un mare di vecchi libri, diventati ormai di pubblico dominio, che aspettano solo di essere scaricati (del tutto legalmente), messi su un lettore di ebook e letti. Per esempio tutti i libri di Jules Verne. Il primo pensiero è "non comprerò più un classico in vita mia".

Poi però uno vede cose come queste.

Google Shopper now available in Android Market – Android and Me.

L’evoluzione della telefonia mobile non finisce di stupire. Google ha rilasciato una applicazione per Android, Google Shopper, che non solo identifica i prodotti dal loro codice a barre, ma anche dalla copertina (per libri, DVD e videogame)!

L’ho appena provato ed è sensazionale! Identifica il libro, ti dice in quali negozio online lo puoi trovare e a che prezzo e ti permette di leggerne le recensioni o la descrizione, se disponibile.

Robots born with the sole purpose of solving the Rubik's Cube are nothing new, but we're pretty sure we haven't seen one crack the code in under a dozen seconds before. The Cubestormer, which is built from a myriad Lego Mindstorm kits, recently took hold of the famous block and lined up every color without breaking a sweat. Oh, and did we mention that it took less than 12 seconds? It's worth noting again, either way. Hop on past the break and mash play to have your mind blown, not to mention your own intelligence insulted.

E’ il segno dei tempi che cambiano… Quante volte vi è capitato ultimamente di essere con gli amici, al pub o in giro per strada e di mettervi a parlare di quello che fanno i vostri amici o conoscenti su Facebook? La frequenza con cui avviene è sconcertante ed è uno dei segni che ormai, la rete si è fatta strada nella nostra vita, come è già successo con altre tecnologie in passato. Speriamo però che dal gossip da pianerottolo ci si possa evolvere in qualcosa di più alto… Dite che sono troppo ottimista?

E dopo le diatribe statico-religiose di ieri, ecco oggi altri strani fenomeni naturali che avvengono di tanto in tanto. Anche il povero Butch, per quanto abbia una mente incline a certe visioni, deve considerarsi innocente in questo caso!

Google Suggest is one of the most interesting and useful features of Google. As you type words in the Google search box, it will try to guess what you are looking for and offer suggestions in real-time.

While we don’t know how exactly Google Suggest works, it does offer a peek into what others are asking or looking for on the web.

For instance, type “how to” in the Google search box and you’ll instantly know that loads of people are looking for information to “how to tie a tie” and “how to lose weight fast”. Google Suggest can also help you understand what others think of a particular product or service. Try the phrase “facebook is” in the search box and you’ll know what people generally think of Facebook.

Google offers search suggestions in a plain drop-down but if you are looking to compare Google Suggest results in a more visual manner, check out Web Seer – this again works as-you-type but the interesting part is that with Web Seer, you can also compare query suggestions for two different phrases.

Here’s an example comparing Facebook and Twitter. Lot of people seem to agree on one these – these networks are a “waste of time.”

The arrow thicknesses in the visualization is an indicator of the number of web pages that are in Google’s index for that query.

The next visualization compares public opinion about Chrome and Firefox according to Google Suggest. The common problem is “speed.”
